Warrior Nation Firing Disipline

Notes on Fire Discipline for all soldiers:

The Squad will be under a blanket engage policy at all times green, yellow, or red. (sometimes called stoplight monitoring)  The following rules borrow heavily (and sometimes word for word) from the game play style of Tactical Ops (more information on the LINK page at the end of the primer.)

GREEN (Sometimes called “Weapons FREE)

Team members may engage the enemy at will using their own best judgment, as to whether their primary personal weapons, or the addition of other team members’ firepower will have the maximum neutralizing effect on the enemy. If they choose to open fire, it’s good form to advise other team members that they are about to open fire and engage the enemy, effectively warning them to seek immediate cover.  (using a contact report)

YELLOW (Sometimes called RECON)

Team members may engage the enemy at will, ONLY if spotted or fired upon themselves. If they spot enemy forces, they should seek immediate safe cover and send a “Contact Report” , then await further instructions. However, if they see an opportunistic situation to engage and maximize enemy casualties without jeopardizing the mission goals, they may exercise their own judgment and go GREEN to engage at will. If they choose to open fire, it’s good form to advise other team members that they are about to open fire and engage the enemy, effectively warning them to seek immediate cover. Once friendly fire commences, Fire Condition GREEN automatically takes immediate effect.

RED (Sometimes called Weapons HOLD)

Team members are in a “Fire Hold” condition and they DO NOT engage or fire on the enemy without a command order, usually from their Fire Team Leader. If they spot enemy forces, they should seek immediate safe cover and send a “Contact Report” , then await further instructions. If enemy forces fire in their general direction without seeming to know where friendly forces are deployed (often called Spec Fire), team members DO NOT return fire unless ordered. Once friendly fire commences, Fire Condition GREEN automatically takes immediate effect.

NOTE: The overriding principle to all of the above conditions is called COMMON SENSE . In other words, if at anytime the personal safety of a team member or themselves is jeopardized due to the enemy spotting or firing directly (no Spec Fire) upon the team, they should immediately engage with aggressive suppressing fire. Once the situation calms down, then they can send the appropriate “Contact Report” or AAR indicating current status. Once reactive friendly fire such as this commences, Fire Condition GREEN automatically takes immediate effect.

All outfits in Battlefield should use SOME version of a voice program.  Most use the two most popular ventrillo or teamspeak.  Ventrillo has lots of options that allow text to speech macros which travel faster than voce to wave, then back to voice.  But at WNx we use Teamspeak because of the hot keys that allow you to switch  between servers, channels, whisper to other squadmates, make channel commanders etc.

Whatever you use, there needs to be RULES when people are speaking.  It can quickly become an out of control environment where idle chat overcomes an organized squadron and people move off to other channels to avoid the noise.

There is a line between fun and too chatty, not everyone knows this line.  The important thing is to ask yourself before you state something.. “ is this something i could type in squad or outfit chat??” and more than likely it is.

Hopefully you can increase your typing skills while playing Battlefield to the point where TS is only the most vital things going across it.  If not, if you are a chatty sort then it is recommended that you move to a loose chat channel where the topics can range without fear of being moderated or banned.

But on the main PS channel, try to keep your comments quick and to the point.  When there is free time (between matches and the like) its fun to joke around on TS and it’s ok too, just make sure you can put that away when the next map loads and it’s time to start moving towards the next goal

There will be two modes of teamspeak:

normal (otherwise known as idle chat) when this is in effect (as it normally is 70% of the time) anyone is free to speak about Planetside material that is vital to the game.  No one person may talk twice in a row unless it is an emergency issue.  Emergencies include anything involving a contact (see below) or if the SL wants more information about something.  The exception to this is the Squad Leader who can spam chat all the vital information he needs to.  If the chat is starting to get out of hand the squad leader may call tighten up, or quiet down as a warning to keep coms clear of chatter and still maintain idle chat.

Battle chat (otherwise known as contact only chat) when the SL calls for this, TS should go totally silent except for the SL and emergency broadcasts from the team.  Battle chat can be called for at any time, but usually when under heavy enemy fire or organizing the squad for a mission is when the SL will call it.  When Called, the team will use VOICE macros and text as much as possible to get any information across.  A squad leader is not expected to say battle chat twice ever and people ignoring this order will be moved to another channel where they can talk all they want, albeit to no one.
