VERSE 1:
The ghost of my father haunts this place
And he stands at the battlements and looks out across the sea
And he's come back to avenge some evil that has been done against him
in his previous life
and I don't know what that might be
And he says son, you don't know what you've begun
You think you're gonna rule the kingdom some day
Truth is you're a million miles away
BRIDGE:
You think you're dancing with the gods
Truth is you're dancing alone
When all's said and done
The afterlife is overrated
I'd rather have my throne
My kingdom, for my kingdom
VERSE 2:
The ghost of my father haunts this place
And he does not dance, and he does not go BOO
He stands at the battlements, and looks out across the sea
and speaks to me... he says.
There are those who have consipired against me to take my kingdom
and my life, and my wife
Maybe I'm just being paranoid
Maybe it's all out of you're control anyway
BRIDGE:
Everythings been planned for you
Everythings been done before
And maybe, it's all somebody elses game
And I cried father, what more
CHORUS:
What more, what more could you want
VERSE 3:
The ghost of my father haunts this place
And I see him in the corner, with that look on his face
Ahh is he drunk, is he having a good time
Is he happy to be, beyond the we... and he says
There are more things on heaven and earth
Than you would ever know of
That I know now
Oh and poor Herachio, he'll be the only one left standing
We stood at the battlements, and looked out across the sea
BRIDGE:
Open your eyes to me
Open your heart
Open, you will love me now
That you are gone
CHORUS:
Gone
The ghost, he walks, walks on down the staircase
In such fluid motion, in such fluid motion
I can't erase..
The ghost of my father, the ghost of my father
ENDING:
The ghost of my father, lives in me, every time
I speak his name, to my son
Created: 1996
Performers: Demo version,
Information: Based on first act of Hamlet when he runs into his father and chats a bit. Written in May of 96 it is one of the newest KnewFoulke songs. It has ZERO commerical value but it is a blast to play and rap to. The orignal demo verson was recorded when I had a really bad cold so the words come out like this 'da ghosd ob my fader'. It was pathetic but I had to get a copy to tape at that very moment in time.
VERSE 1:
A train runs through town, with no one on
The ships all tied to the docks now, much too tight
There's no men in the fields, no work underground
There's no work at all to be found
The autoplants packed up and headed South
Compatition they cried, took the food from our mouths
And all around me the cancer grows
Seems nobody cares where nobody goes
VERSE 2:
So I'm all alone again, what a surprize
My friends and neighbors turned out to all be spies
And who do you trust now, when you can see through everyone
And I know what to do, but I don't want to do what must be done
And what of my son now, whats left behind for him
Where mainstreet's deserted, empty storefronts where the shops once had been
So there's nothing left to do, in this nowhere town
Still wishing another way out could be found
CHORUS:
From this Ghost Town
From this Ghost Town, legacy broken down
From this Ghost Town, pack yourself and get away while you still can
From this Ghost Town
BRIDGE:
And there's no reason to think you can ever start over again
VERSE 3:
So the metaphore of midwest comes to an end
The country crowds at the corners, it's a wonder she don't bend
So woe to the heartlands, and the coastal towns
Woe to everyplace that isn't city that can still be found
That is'nt a ghost town
Created: 1996
Performers: Carl, but slated for Paul & Ned
Information: Written in my front yard on a blanket while my boy ran around in the driveway with his mom. Thought about the smaller towns that will eventualy get swallowed up by the Citys. Chester County out here is just another Upper Darby in a hundred years, believe it.
